Price Paid: $600.00
from tmc
Summary:
Sorry...This is by way of clarifying the preceeding
review....my preference in the TMC/AQ speaker cable shootout
should be stated with more clarity..... I definitely
preferred the tmc gold over the aq even while using the az
digital cable. The AQ bass was fractionally more articulate
ie plumbed the depths ever so slightly better. The TMC bass
had more weight but was still extremely musical (ie not
bloated)...this was the only aspect of the aq that I had a
slight preference for...the treble and mids were hands down
more seductive with the Golds even with the az in the
system. It was then the introduction of the TMC Blue digital
cable which became such a revelation ...as a long term much
travelled audiophile I can only describe it as
startling....thanks

Price Paid: $600.00
from TMC
Summary:
I have used tmc yellow ics between my pre and power amps for
many years but only made the move on the speaker cable and
digital ic 3 months ago..and did so with some skepticism. I
had been enjoying bi wired Audioquest Gibraltar speaker
cable along with an Acoustic Zen mc2 digital cable. This
setup gave me great detail and deep clean bass but I felt
that the soundstage was recessed and narrowed and therefore
lacked the sense of "musicians in the room". My process of
changing cables included the appropriate burn in periods and
the result was as follows. . I changed the aq for the Golds
first and felt the differences were subtle...slightly better
image focus, retention of the great detail ,slightly blacker
background with the bass about equal with a slight
preference for the aq,s. Both sets of cables have good
pedigree (remembering that the aq was 3 times the price of
the TMC) so I wasnt suprised by this...however when I
changed the AZ for the TMC Blue 75 ohm digital cable
(between my transport and dacs) which I did with little
expectation I truly was amazed. The width and depth of the
soundtage literally blew me away. I could hear 'into'
recordings that had been far more one dimensional in my old
setup. Instruments became truly isolated from one another
with the air in the treble increased dramatically. Dynamic
swings in music( particularly big band, classical and rock)
which served previously to remind me that I was listening to
compressed recordings in the digital domain were now a
revelation. ..all brought forth from an absolutely dead
quiet background. The 3 dimensional presentation of that
which I had become familiar with in 2 1/2 dimensions pressed
all the audiophilia buttons in me that devotees generally
yearn for...not to mention pay for. I recommend without
reservation an all TMC system...45 days money back says it
all.
System in brief...
Proceed AVP 2 , Marantz monoblocks, Arcam transport. mirage
OM 6s
Strengths:
All as above
Weaknesses:
As in my case they may be substantially cheaper than your
previous reference wires...us audiophools do like to spend
money

Summary:
I've had these in my system now for 2 years. Never once thought
of upgrading. have in my system now a Classic 6.6 int. amp and
an esound e5sig cd player. Brutally honest and wonderful
equipment from the far east........what isn't made in the far
east these days! cables are a joy plain and simple. replaced
kimbers 8TC and heard an immeadiate improvement. I have
tried other cables in the line, some costing upwards of $2000.00
a pair.....I keep coming back to the gold reference.
Strengths:
Clear defined bass. detailed mid and highs reproduction that
doesn't fatigue. Presents the music as it should be heard.....no
masking, no addition or subtraction. Makes expensive cables
obsolete! Mine with Eichman bullets.
Weaknesses:
Their Aussie and not US? No weaknesses to speak of. Long break
in time.

cables don't. Went from tubes to high high end solid

Summary:
It is so nice that there are excellent cable options available to audiophile's that don.t cost too
much. I 1st heard about these at the highly respected Supratek
preamp website. I had to downgrade my system for financial
reasons, selling off some very nice Jena Labs Symphoney speaker
cable and gave these a try.
Absolutely a remarkable cable at this price point. Allows a
neutral, open, and harmonic soundfield. I was amazed at the
detail, bass control and inner detail that could be had for
$150!
I ended buying getting 3 of the TMC IC's and couldn't be more
pleased. A natural, harmonic sound for less than $300 in cables.
The post's here are correct for TMC cables, a definate audiophile
BARGAIN, that I highly recommend!
Used with:
Wolcott P220 & Van Alstine 550exr amps
Von Schweikert VR4JR speakers
Strengths:
Price and Provides a very realistic open soundfield that is rich
in inner resolution.
Weaknesses:
Spades are a little on the thin side, but they function fine.

Summary:
I purchased these
cables (along with XLR's, white label interconnects and even
the jumper wires) to have unity throughout my 2-channel system.
They were recommended to me by a friend who's an
audiophile and insisted that I give them a try. I bought two
3m pairs of the Gold Reference Speaker Cables because my Proceed
AMP2 has two sets of binding posts for true bi-wiring. When I
hooked them up to my KEF Reference 3's the improvement was
remarkable. The most glaring difference to me was in the bass
response. The mid's and highs were much clearer making the music
more "lifelike". I also know that as they burn in, they will
sound even better. And don't let the weight of these cables fool
you. They are light but they will make a believer out of you, as
they did for me. I had never spent this much on cables before,
but getting 50% off my entire order sure didn't hurt. Imagine
that, a quality product at a reasonable price. And if it's
personalized customer service you want, King will answer all
your questions quickly and honestly. You must try these great
cables from Down Under.
Strengths:
quality, price, customer service
Weaknesses:
that I hadn't bought them sooner

Summary:
Prior to using this cable, I was using QED Silver Anniversary and
wanted to tame some of the tweeter brightness I was hearing through
my speakers. I figured this would be less expensive than a component
change and I could always return it if not satisfied. I had nothing
to loose.
Well, the bottom line is I didn't return them. The Gold Reference
make my speakers sound less bright/harsh especially with "s" sounds
in vocals which had always been a problem. The detail is still there
but it's just more musical and less synthetic. The bass and mid-bass
are more substantial and satisfying. They may not be quite as
resolving of the fine details like the QED but overall, I like my
music more through these cables and frankly, it's the only thing
that really matters. They look good and are well made. I'm no
electrical engineer but I do believe their construction helps cancel
all outside interference which can cause distortion.
Though it wasn't as dramatic as a component change, they made a
positive difference in the overall sound of my system and it didn't
cost me an arm and a leg.
One last thing: The guys at TMC know what customer service really
means. It's exceptional.
Strengths:
lower frequency extension and power
natural highs, non fatiguing
first rate noise shielding
Weaknesses:
maybe slightly less resolving than silver cables.

Summary:
About 8 months ago, I came across a preamp from Australia, the
Supratek Cortese and Mick of Supratek strongly suggested that I try
The Music Cable (TMC) products. I've been very pleased with my long
time reference cables from MIT (The Oracle Series and all its
predecessors). The MIT's always imparted a "roundness" to the music
that to me is very essential in conveying realness to the music. By
roundness I don't mean a softening of detail or an enriched warmth
in those lower regions of the music; I mean a 3 dimensionality that
contributes greatly for me to believing that there are artists
"performing" for me as opposed to canned music. As I have auditioned
cabling from many manufacturers throughout the years (harmonic tech,
tranparent, nbs, tara labs, FIM, DH, to mention a few), I've always
come back to the MIT's. Sometimes immediately, sometimes it would
take months, but I would come back to that 3D effect because it just
made the music more believeable.
Well, along comes this shipment of cables from King at The Music
Cables in Australia. 8 ft pair of Gold Reference spk cables with
assorted intereconnects. King and I had discussed what cabling I
want and what he wanted me to try. He strongly suggested that I try
TMC's throughout my system. He assured me that this was the best way
for me to appreciate what TMC had to offer. Money back guarantee,
why not!
Almost immediately upon putting the cabling in my system I was taken
taken back by the relaxed balanced that my system now had. An
acoustic guitar had dimensionality. Nora Jones was there, right
there in front of me, in the flesh. All three beautiful dimensions
of her (4 if you count her voice!). The music now has power without
being edgy or forward (pushy). There is a "liveness' to the music
that is most rewarding. And talk about quiet! These cables use a
solid copper tubing as a shield, the ultimate shield. They are
stiff, but pliable, I actually found it an asset to be able to form
the cables into the shape I needed to go over other cables or around
equipment. They aren't very heavy so they aren't pulling equipment
off my rack (and I have everything on Symposium Roller Blocks)
Wow, a new set of cables that are neutral,
balanced (sonically), quiet, and they do for me what my reference
cables have been doing for years but at a fraction of the cost. Yes,
the TMC's are inexpensive by today's standard of "high end " audio.
I know there are a lot of really great products out there that cost
a really large sum of money and many of those may actually justify
their price, but when it comes to cables I'm sure you have had that
internal discussion with yourself (if not with others) as I have had
with myself about the sums of money we are asked to pay for that
lenth of copper or silver with those beautiful locking connectors at
each end.
Well, my suggestion is to go to www.the-music-cable.com and read
their propaganda. Surprisingly, it's more fact than fiction. Then
order your cables. Order an entire system of cables. They have a
money back guarantee. But beleive me; I am certain that you won't be
sending any cables back to King.
Anyone want some MIT's at a great price?

Like many other reviewers here I am using all TMC cables in my
system now. I have to say their entire cable product line brings
highly musical sound, and I cannot recommend more.
I've tried many other cables before and after I got TMC, those
cables all got favorable reviews, all cost more, all sounds good,
but I end up staying with TMC and selling all other competitors.
For those who doesn't have TMC, put aside $100 at audiogon and give
yourself a try, for those who are already TMC, don't buy another
cable unless you wish to spend thousands. I lost enough money buying
new cable and sell them 24 hours after comparison with TMC (all
cables cooked by professional machine so there's run-in problem).
Best @200 I spent in my system, my audio gears come and go, TMC
cables are the only ones that stay for two years!

Weaknesses:

This is more a follow up to my lengthy yellow lable review. First
look at these cables may have you skeptical... spades are less than
beefy... BUT, after you listen, you really won't care. These cables
are truthful, and wonderfully present. I got these to round out my
system with all TMC, and replaced some much more expensive and
highly touted cables. Since then, I have switched out to more
expensive cable, but continually return to TMC! The music is
there... all of it. You can get better, but be prepared to move WAY
up the price chain. Midrange is especially coherent. The very ends
of the extremes get ever so slightly frayed, but really, you'll need
to approach 1G before you hear significant change. Great cable, and
very much worth the 5/5 rating.
Strengths:
Great value cable that, like the venerable Vandersteen 2Ce, does so
many things right, it's hard to gainsay it. Try them... King is
great, and you'll buy more vinyl with the money you save!
Weaknesses:
Stiff, but not unmanagable. Slightly weak spades, but seem not to
affect quality.

I don't normally review a product until it is fully burned in for at
least 100hrs. I have approx 50hrs on these 1 1/2 meter b-wire pair
and judging from my experience with their interconnects, their
performance is only going to get better. After tighteming a loose
connection to my bass on my left speaker, (it was not making contact
properly and I was getting thin sound) the sound I was getting after
only 20hrs of burn in was staggering. The dynamics were there
without any harshness, plenty of detail and a large soundstage.
These are very smooth and musical cables, just like the TMC
interconnects. They replaced a pair of highly regarded flat, silver
speaker cable that cost more than twice the price. I have had many
cables in my system and none have offered me performance close to
these! If you are in the market for more expensive cables
(regardless of cost), try these first. They are that good. Look for
my upcoming review on the TMC Yellow interconnect, I have loaned it
to a friend and will A/B it against the TMC White cable that I have
on my CD player. See my review on the White cable for a list of my

Summary:
I was researching PSB Goldi speakers when I noticed that a few
owners had TMC cable in their systems. I only new about Transparent,
Audioquest, Straight Wire, and Kimber. I actually wanted to buy
Transparent because I was told by friends that it was the best. I
just didn't want to spend that much at the time. I researched more
and stumbled on Harmonic Technologies. I was seriously thinking
about purchasing that when I checked out the reviews on the TMC. I
finally decided that if I was going to take the time to do all of
this research I might as well "get it right the first time". I then
started paying attention to the ratings and scores that each wire
received. Although some companies had more reviews than others, I
still had to pay attention to which received a better ratings and
reviews. Between the Harmonic Tech Pro 9 Biwire and the TMC Gold
Label I chose the TMC. I am very happy with my choice. I did get to
audition the Transparent and hated it because it was way too bright
and lifeless for me. I'm a musician and I must be able to hear
everything and feel everything that the music has to offer. I bought
the Truly Bi-wire set up which is two single strands put together to
make a bi-wire, not one wire with two ends to hookup to the amp on
one end and four on the other to hookup to the hi and low side of
the speaker. It's a lot more wire, but I think it evenly distributes
signal to both sides of the speaker to allow for better sound and
performance.
Since I've had the TMC Gold Label I've noticed better bass. It's
more pronounced and has better punch. There is more detail and the
highs are more pleasing to my ear. It's not too bright or harsh like
the Transparent. It's really made a difference on my center channel.
I use to have to use an equalizer on the center because it sounded
to "boxy". With the Gold Label it sounds more open with a bit more
detail and better bass. I played a DTS disc sampler a friend let me
borrow and noticed what a dramatic difference it made. From that
disc, I played the Eagles' "New York Minute" and Don Henley's vocal
was much more clear. He didn't sound like he was congested. The bass
guitar had more definition and clarity than before.
And talk about looks. This is one speaker wire that your wife, that
is if you're married, won't bother you to hide. The gold label,
which for some reason they don't show a picture of on this website,
has a beautiful burgundy snake- skin-like jacket. It is stiff so
make sure you give yourself a extra inch or two when ordering.
The owner, King, is a pleasure to do business with. He's very good
and quick in answering questions. Check out his website at
www.the-music-cable.com and see what he has to offer. I don't work
for TMC. I am a musician that has a love for music and my stereo. I
feel very fortunate to have stumbled on a fine product. When you
find something in life that you really like you tell everybody. I
love my TMC cable and this is my way of telling everyone. Try this
cable. If you don't like, King will send you your money back. Check

skeptical before I received the cable. Being in the business for
quite some time and retailing other more expensive brands of cable,
I was not expecting all that much. The cables arrived and I was
quite surprised. They represented almost a combination of silver and
copper cabling. They had the open, natural bass of a copper cable
with the airy and clear highs of a silver cable. I was also
surprised by how they sounded without burn-in. Most cables are very
picky about burn-in, as I have seen silver cables exhibit a 6db
difference when only one was burned in. As the cables cooked a bit,
I was continually mesmerized by their performance. I have just
received my second (longer) set which I puchased from their website
to go with my permanent system, and I am very happy with it. I have
also purchased two sets of their truly balanced cables and they are
excellent aswell. Anybody looking to spend under $1000 per pair of

Summary:
I wrote this review a month after purchased them (Dec, 2000), but
did not post it here. Now I found it and found that my opinion over
the time passed only improved and I am still extremely happy with
these wires. I have three 2-m pairs to bi-wire my two Castle
Acoustics Howard S2 and the center Keeo. Here is my Jan, 2001
review:
I purchased the Gold Label Reference Speaker Cables about a month or
so ago and think they are really good. To elaborate a little bit on
this subject, I have to say that at that time I owned the
Synergistic Research Signature No 2/No 3 bi-wire cables (which
retail in the usual - not bi-wire - configuration for $ 600 (MSRP) a
pair). I also already owned the TMC Yellow and White interconnects.
My goal was either to keep the Synergistic cables or to switch to
the TMC bi-wire cables. I have to say that in the begining I favored
the former ones. More, precisely, I felt that the Synergistic cables
had a better extension, in particluar, in highs, and were more open
and clean.
However, the TMC Gold Reference cables, right from the box, sounded
somehow more ``right' (say, less ``analytic' in the ``bad' sense of
this word, compared with the SR cables) and much more enjoyable,
though being ``muffled.' I simply liked their sound, in spite of all
of the above. They somehow gave more natural soundstage and
especially the voices were way more attractive. I guessed that I
should wait till they are more broken. I was right - after a week or
so (2-4 hrs a day of listening) this ``muffleness' started to
``melt' and the sound became more light, airy and transparent, with
excellent natural focus and I (began to forget that I am analyzing
which of the cables are better and) was just enjoying the music. I
did not feel any longer that I am missing the frequency extension of
Synergistic cables or their other ``virtues.' Overall, the TMC
cables sounded now to me better in all aspects (I was still doing
A/B comparison) - their sound seemed to me fuller and the voices
were really (much more) enjoyable. The tonal balance of the TMC
cables is its the strongest point. So, at the end the choice was
very easy - I am very happy with the TMC speaker cables now. (The
Synergistic cables are also very good, but, maybe, not the best
choice for my solid state set-up.)
One more thing to notice, in some of the tests I was using my Castle
Howard S2 speakers with 2 HSU Research TN 1220 subs crossed at 80Hz
(using my Angstrom sub preout). With the SR cables the sound was
very thin - now lows - and hence very unpleasant, with the TMC
cables however the sound was full and very natural and enjoyable.
(Now I use this wonderful combination crossed at 75 Hz).
Strengths:
Very natural, disappear in music
Weaknesses:

For my taste, these cables are the greatest thing I have found on

interconnects, see my review of TMC White and Yello Lable products.
On first inspection, I felt these cables did not have a chance of
carrying the high amperage required to drive my Magnepan MGIII's.
These thing look delicate and my amp is rated at 400 watts into 4
ohms and I frequently push 250 to 300 watts!! When I e-mailed King
at TMC about my concern, he said the cables are rated for 6KW!! From
my experience with their interconnects, I should have had more
faith. I was so concerned that I initially only hooked them to my
mid range/tweeter with the Monocles driving the base. After talking
with King I took the plung and single wired them.
When first connected they sound very thin, after 3 or 4 hours they
sounded too warm, after 20 hours they seemed unexciting. Then things
begin a transition to a rich musicality that is hard to describe.
Listening to them, the midrange is full and resonant, the highs are
crystal clear, the base is solid and well controlled, and the sound
stage is out of this world.
If you are looking for technically exact sound reproduction, these
are probably not your choice, you need the mega bucks only high end
can provide. If you are looking for a musical experience, you should
consider the 45 trial period. Check Audiogon and ebay auctions for a
great intoductory price.

Value rating is based on auction price, but they will compete well
with anything I have found in their price range.

Summary:
I am an 'audiophile'...but my girlfriend Donna, is not. So, although
my opinions may be 'tainted' by what I "want" to hear, hers are not.
Here are her words, verbatim..."There's no background humming
static-anything. It's just the music."
Bingo!
This system is 350w of McIntosh power into 20ft speaker- wire runs
to a pair of JBL 4312's. The previous cable was the generic fat
Monster Cable.
There IS a difference. I highly recommend this cable.
I can't wait to bi-wire my new Tannoy D-700's up to these cables!
Enjoy!
Shipping from Australia via DHL was QUICK! Comparable to ordering
from USA company. Thanks, guys...er, Mates!
Strengths:
Clarity, non-coloration, construction, Coloring of covering.
Weaknesses:
None.
